What is engagement rate?
Engagement rate shows how many people interact with a post compared with how many follow the account. By followers, it is (likes + comments + shares and saves) ÷ followers × 100. It's a better measure of a healthy audience than follower count, because bought or inactive followers don't engage.
What's a good engagement rate?
It depends on the network and the account's size. As a rough guide, 1% to 3% is healthy on Instagram, 3% to 9% on TikTok, and under 1% is common on X and YouTube. Smaller accounts usually have higher rates, so compare an account with others of a similar size. In our example, @duolingo averages 1.55% on Instagram with 5.4M followers.
One post or a whole account?
Use the calculator above for one post: type its likes, comments, shares and saves, plus the account's followers. To vet an influencer or benchmark a competitor, look up the account instead. You'll see the average across its recent posts and spot the posts that did best.
